| MetroWest Hosts Successful National Night Out Event for 500+ Community Members, local dignitaries attend annual safety event |
Posted on Aug 8th, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. (August 2, 2011) – MetroWest Master Association (MWMA) hosted a successful National Night Out event on August 2, 2011, where more than 500 people gathered at MetroWest Golf Club for an evening of crime prevention education, safety awareness and entertainment. Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney, City Commissioner Samuel Ings and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings attended the event to recognize MWMA’s “Stomp Out Crime” theme for receiving second place in the National Night Out theme contest among all events held in Orlando.
“This is the biggest and best event we have hosted for the MetroWest community,” says Stina D’Uva, president, MetroWest Master Association Board of Directors. “When you have a community that bonds and gets to know each other, there is no better safety program.”
The free community event featured self-defense and law-enforcement demonstrations; performances by America’s Got Talent Top 10 finalist, Studio One Young Beast Society; more than 20 exhibitors; free food; and a Kids’ Zone with bounce houses, games, face painting and much more. Winners were announced and presented with their prizes for the “Stomp Out Crime” poster art contest among four local public schools.
MWMA, as the Master Association for all of MetroWest, enthusiastically accepted the goal of increasing safety in its community of 14,000 addresses of residents and businesses through its 2011 launch of “Stomp Out Crime,” a themed initiative bringing together existing safety programs (i.e., Neighborhood Watch for homeowners’ associations, Crime-free Multi-Housing for condominium-owner associations and apartment complexes and Business Watch for local businesses), diligently outreaching to inform everyone about these programs and increasing active participation. MWMA also utilizes a partnership with Orlando Police Department (OPD) through consistent, proactive communication; an additional police officer hired for extra daily community patrol; participation in OPD’s Innovative Response to Improve Safety (I.R.I.S.) camera program; and a former OPD officer employed as its Crime Prevention Manager, serving as a liaison between OPD and MWMA to facilitate communications.
